Year 13 Students Attend Wellington College’s ‘Choose to Lead’ Conference
Last week, Head Student Mia (Year 13) and Science Captain Tammy (Year 13) attended the Heads of College Conference at Wellington College. They had the chance to connect with head students from various schools across the country and engage in meaningful discussions on the importance of leadership.
Account written by Mia (Head Student, Year 13):
Tammy (Science Captain) and I had such a great time at the Heads of College Conference held at Wellington College last week.
First, we learnt about the issues regarding women’s education in Afghanistan and the help of UNICEF from a powerful keynote presentation by Daniela Mohaupt, which was truly eye opening.
After that, we broke off into mini groups to take part in icebreakers and discuss the importance of leading the student body with enthusiasm, empathy, and accountability.
Lunch with the prefect team was amazing and was another great opportunity to build further connections with other head students and to share our experiences in the role.
Towards the end of the day, we listened to Para-Cyclist Lizzi Jordan’s recount her journey from a young woman who tragically lost her sight to an Olympic Gold Medallist at this years’ games, which was story of real resilience and persistence.
The day was lovely and everyone from the Wellington team was very accommodating. We met so many people who shared similar experiences as head students which was very helpful and refreshing!
Thank you to Wellington College for hosting such an insightful event.
