Maristine Psychiatry Career Talks

On Thursday, we had the wonderful opportunity to welcome Maristine Dr Megan Viegas back to The Marist. Megan left The Marist Sixth Form in 2014 and studied Medicine at Nottingham University and, having graduated and experienced a number of areas of medicine in her foundation years, is now a Core Psychiatry trainee.

During her visit this week Megan joined our Upper Sixth Psychology class, as several students are contemplating studying Psychology, Sports Psychology or Neuroscience at university. They learned about her academic journey into Medicine and the various career paths available within Psychiatry teams and Psychology in general.

Later, Megan spoke to our Med Soc and Oxbridge groups, sharing insights from her experiences as a medical doctor who is now specialising in psychiatry. She delivered an informative presentation about different allied health professions, including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, dietitians, and more, while also providing our students with valuable information on how to pursue these careers.

It was a fabulous opportunity to hear from Megan and some of her most impactful words were linked to her time on Psychiatry wards: ‘I work in an area where there is always hope, even though, many of the people I am working with, do not always feel hopeful’.

Thank you to Megan for inspiring the next generation of Marist students.
