Oxbridge Group and Med Soc Host Guest Speakers

This half term, Oxbridge Group and Med Soc have been fortunate to benefit from valuable talks from two guest speakers.

Last Tuesday, MedSoc had the pleasure of welcoming Dr Ieuan Walker, an academic clinical fellow at the University of Cambridge and Addenbrooke Hospital, as well as the Kay Kendall Leukaemia Fellow at Clare College.

With extensive experience in Medicine admissions at the University of Cambridge, Dr Walker shared valuable insights about the dos and don’ts of applying for medicine, as well as the challenges and rewarding moments that come with the journey. He highlighted the continuous learning and development, along with the breakthroughs that fuel his passion.

This week, we were joined by Eilidh Quinn, a Maristine (former student, 2012-2017). After graduating from The Marist in 2017, Eilidh read Chemistry at the University of St Andrews and is currently in her second year of her PhD at the University of Oxford. Eilidh has previously delivered several talks, and she provided us with an update on her research in inorganic synthesis and sustainable materials. Additionally, she shared insights about a typical day in her life as a PhD student at Oxford. The session wrapped up with a collaborative activity where we analysed scientific papers to enhance our students’ research skills.

Thank you to Dr Walker and Eilidh Quinn for giving up their time to visit and for delivering such inspiring and insightful talks.
