Super League Netball Coaching Session – by Ciara H, Year 9 Sports Scholar
In September a group of 9 Sports Scholars and TAP students went to ‘Girls Go Gold’ in Sherborne. We had a fabulous day meeting Clare Balding and Sue Anstiss and taking part in some great workshops. (Read more about this experience here)
When we were there we also took part in a shooting competition at lunch and, because we scored the highest number of goals in 90 seconds, we won a coaching session with Pulse Super League Netball team. After school on Wednesday, we took part in a coaching netball session with Isla May, a Pulse defender who plays in the Super League.
45 of us attended this session, in which we worked on attacking through the court and making preliminary moves. We also did some work on attacking and defensive back lines to goal and Isla explained different options of where to hold on the circle edge and ways to play the ball around to successfully score.
At the end of a very active session it was really interesting to hear about her experiences, including her journey to get to the Super League and her training schedule, which involves 3 court sessions and 2 conditioning sessions throughout the week.
We all had a great time learning about her netball experiences and she was a real inspiration to us.
Thank you to Mrs Pearce for arranging the session and giving us this chance to improve our netball and learn from such a great player.
