Young Cinematographers Make Their Debut

Years 9 and 10 put their filmmaking skills to the test in a fantastic workshop with One Day Film School.

In the morning, they learned the essentials; film history, fight choreography, camera tricks and screenwriting, covering the basics of creating memorable characters and how to make us care.

Then it was time for the ‘10 Shot Challenge’: pupils worked in groups to create silent (2 minutes max) based on a classic narrative (eg. ’Someone is kidnapped, an attempted rescue’) ready for premiering at the end of the day.

Pupils worked excellently within their film crews, demonstrating superb teamwork and leadership to deliver screen-ready productions in just 90 minutes.

It was then time for the 2024 Marist Oscars: the judges (Young Film Academy representatives) took their seats for the world premiere of pupils’ films, and to decide who would win the coveted title of ‘Best Motion Picture’…

After much deliberation and with fierce competition, the Best Motion Picture was awarded to ‘Taken’. The judges commended the team for an entertaining narrative which was executed with originality and great technical skill. Congratulations!
