Performing Arts

Music is the beating heart of life in the Prep Phase of the school.

Every year group has an hour each week with our specialist music teacher, Mr McAllister. In addition, the whole school sing together joyfully every Wednesday morning, covering a wide range of repertoire from mass settings in three-part harmony to songs by Shakira.

There are opportunities for pupils to sit LAMDA and ABRSM examinations with work that is either covered in class or in co-curricular time.

We have a very strong tradition of string playing in Prep, with a growing number of people taking up wind and brass instruments. There is a Junior Orchestra, Junior Choir, Guitar Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble and Ukulele Orchestra, and more advanced players have the opportunity of joining the Whole School Orchestra with the Senior Phase pupils. The flagship choir – ‘The Maristers’, appear at festivals, churches, and concerts for local care homes.

Every festive occasion (Nativities, Christmas, Celebration of Work Day) has music spilling out from every corner of the school featuring every child in the school, and regular Teatime Concerts present further opportunities for pupils to perform to their parents and peers.

In Year 5, pupils have the opportunity to join the chorus for the Whole School Drama Production and in Year 6, pupils perform their very own end of year production, complete with professional lighting, sound, and band!
