Sports

Sport plays a key part in the development of our pupils from Nursery to VI Form.

One of the key benefits of an all-through school is the extensive facilities available to all our children from Nursery upwards. We have a purpose-built Sports Centre which hosts a full-size netball and basketball court and four badminton courts.

Outside, we have five newly resurfaced netball courts which convert into tennis courts in the summer term. Our astroturf, which is situated alongside our fabulous school woodlands, gives us the space to deliver hockey lessons, and boasts two further netball courts.

We have a 22m indoor heated swimming pool, which lies adjacent to the Sports Centre and is used for swimming lessons from Nursery upwards. We also facilitate co-curricular swim clubs for Years 3 – 6.

Girls in Years 3 – 6 play regular competitive fixtures against local schools in netball, hockey, football, cricket and swimming. We have an excellent track record of sporting success, with teams regularly reaching regional and national finals.

The Sports Department consists of an experienced and dynamic team of staff who are committed to the successful delivery of PE and Sport. We employ specialist external coaches to deliver some aspects of our programme and all PE staff teach cross phase.

We promote enjoyment and participation for life, as well as developing pupil’s fundamental movement skills. Teamwork, leadership, and good conduct are at the core of our programme. Through our sporting programme, we enable many pupils to achieve success at County, Regional and National level in a range of sports. As well as the importance of adopting a healthy active lifestyle and developing a love of sport for life, the main aim of our lessons is for our pupils to enjoy their learning and develop a passion for activity.

The PE curriculum on offer is wide and varied in its content, including Games, Dance, Gymnastics, Swimming, outdoor education and Athletics, delivered by qualified specialists.

From Year 3, pupils compete with local schools in cricket, football, hockey, netball, swimming, rounders, athletics, and handball, and we have a strong history of reaching County, Regional and National finals in a range of areas. We recognise that this success comes from the fact that at all levels, every pupil who attends co-curricular sporting clubs is given the opportunity to represent the school in local fixtures and tournaments. From this wide base of the participation pyramid, we enable excellence to be achieved.
